As most of you may know by now, Brindi’s fate is still on hold pending behavioral assessment. The court has been adjourned until April 16. Canadian Press has finally taken up the issue and Brindi’s case is now enjoying widespread coverage. Social Media has proved once again that a message is conveyed much more effectively through the voice of the community than traditional press releases.

We have received hundreds of e-mails requesting information as well as our point of view on this issue.

At this stage it is highly unlikely, I would go as far as saying impossible, that Brindi will be killed. Unless the City, in a desperate attempt to hold ground, continues to push for a killing order. At this stage nobody else believes Brindi should be killed. I am convinced there is not a single “expert in Canada” that would testify that Brindi presents a danger to the society.
So this is good news.
Vaughan Black, a professor at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, said the case is important because dog owners seldom actually contest the euthanasia of their dogs. “My sense is there’s not a lot of precedents on this simply because given the cost of this, and hiring lawyers, most people … don’t go to court the way Ms. Rogier is doing,” he said.
This is precisely what made Let’s Adopt! take up this case. What we have here is a woman fighting, against all odds, to save the life of her dog and have her returned home safely. We have someone fighting for what is right, against an unholy alliance of municipal officials and “animal welfare organizations” like the Canadian SPCA that like in so many other cases have betrayed their very own founding principles.
Brindi and Francesca have become symbols of a fight against oppression and discrimination that affects every single dog owner in Canada and the States. The vast majority of people would have yielded and allowed Brindi to be killed by lethal injection. Not Francesca. She stood on her ground and fought; her actions resulted in the changing of the law and the widespread questioning of a system that needs to be changed.
Francesca could have taken the easy way out and allow the City to kill her dog. She could have compromised and allowed Brindi to be given to someone else, there were no shortage of “dog trainers” willing to take Brindi in exchange for their 15 minutes of fame.
The fight for animal rights has surprising parallels with the Civil Rights cause. Same themes apply. Oppressive systems, individual rights trampled by the authorities, unlikely heroes who dare to stand up and say NO. It is in this precise act of defiance that people like Francesca Rogier draw their uncompromising strength and push to change the world for the better.

It all started with David and Goliath… and we know what happened with those two in the end.

  • This is brilliant news !!! I was aware yesterday was Brindi's last day of judgement & this has made my day. I pray Brindi is returned to Francesca. April 16th is marked in my diary !! Thanks to all who have worked so hard !!!

    • Thanks Christine.. well keep you posted.. Thanks for being there.

    • Oh my, I cannot believe this is still going on. Francesca should move to one of the other Maritime Provinces. Where I live in NB, I see dogs attacking other dogs at dog parks all the time and nothing is done. I love that show on TV that the dog trainer goes in and completely takes over the house hold and advises the owner/s how to train their dog/s. I forget the name, has the name leash in it I think. Brindi just needs to be trained. These dogs are very protective. Such a shame for this dear dog to be in a kennel for so long. I love all animals but dogs are in my heart. I am so glad of the support that Francesca has gotten but I would move out of province if I were her!!

  • IO CREDO CHE BRINDI DEBBA VIVERE ANCORA!!!!!!i

  • Actually I hate to compare two different things…but i.e. while a child abuser gets "professional" help, and eventually gets out – even though he is a real , uncontrollable danger…what chances does an animal have, if WE do not speak for him/her?

  • This is wonderful news. It is also great to see social media utilized as the true vox populi. Traditional media, be warned. Your editors cannot stifle the honest opinion of the common person any longer.

  • Well said, Viktor! xo

  • I was relieved to hear that Brindi is still here and Francesca is still fighting for her to return home. I hope and pray that next month will be the month she can finally go home!!! She belongs no where else but home with Francesca. Francesca, you have so many people that support you, thank you for not giving up and fighting to bring Brindi home. We will be watching/reading about this until Brindi is back in your arms.

  • Great News, I hope all works out. I'm in the sates and I have poted on facebook and told all my friends to take action to get Brindi back!

  • I find it frustrating that Brindi must wait another month, and then must pass what amounts to a psychological examination. The judge had it in her power to send Brindi home and have the examination done from there. Brindi will pass – and she can spend the days she has left with Francesca, and the rest of Canada will not forget what has transpired in Halifax for the past 19 months (20, by the time Brindi is freed).

  • This entire process is insane. As 'PRO-gresive" as Canada is, its a situation like this one and the allowance of the seal hunt that continues to baffle me and scratch a portion of my head bald. I love Canada and have many friends and acquaintances throughout Canada thanks to work, and even the ones that aren't self-proclaimed "animal lovers" can't digest these injustices. I commend Ms. Rogier for her fight and if it was me in the same situation, I'd be fighting my guts out to not only save my dog, but to stick to criminal politicians. Hopefully, after this is all settled and Brindi is home and safe, the first she should do is file her papers and run for mayor! And in the process, sue the snot out of these so called "representative"! Just like us in the 'States, us common-folk NEED to take back OUR government and get the professional politicians OUT!
