I wonder if Judge Murphy knows the extended joy felt in waves around the world yesterday as news of her ruling circumnavigated the world faster than the speed of sound or light.
I wonder if she has any idea how much happiness she created within the hearts of more people than she can perhaps imagine. People from most countries of the world. People that have stood by for almost two years as Francesca Rogier has fought for the life of her companion, her dog Brindi.
Yesterday afternoon in a Dartmouth, Nova Scotia courthouse, Judge Alanna Murphy created just such a tsunami when she ruled that Brindi would be released* from the city’s relentless 20-month stranglehold.
Yesterday afternoon, Judge Murphy let us know that the light at the end of the tunnel was NOT yet another train coming, but an opening back into the life Francesca and Brindi had barely started together.
Brindi supporters from around the world are rejoicing as messages of happiness continue to pour in.
Thank you, Judge Murphy, for choosing life over death; for giving Francesca and Brindi the much-asked chance to shine in the community!
You are world class to us one and all!
To Francesca, Brindi and Amelia — best wishes for a long and wonderful future!
Ciao, Holly
* Conditions for the release include: Francesca and Brindi must take training courses, Francesca must ensure there is a secure enclosure for Brindi at her home; Brindi must be muzzled when she is outside.

Janette Hamilton says:
We have proven that diligence makes a difference and let at least one city know the world is watching. Hopefully this decision will set precedence in Canada. We have won the battle but the war rages on! We will not be satisfied until dogs and cats everywhere are safe! We have a lot of work ahead of us, but this victory proves that change can be made if we act to support each other and fight for what is right. The animals do not have their own voice, let us raise our voices in unison to support those who can not speak for themselves. To Francesca and Brindi: congratulations! and may you have a long nd happy life together!
Kelly says:
I hope Judge Murphy has indeed heard the voices of people all over the world who are applauding her decision.
The city of Halifax destroyed 31 dogs while they played with Brindi's life under international scrutiny; for one year and nine months. The issue is far from over.
For Brindi, who must jump through a few more hoops for 3 more months, there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Her loving little being is going to be so happy to be out of incarceration!
Sandy Mulkeen says:
This is excellent news; what a humane, intelligent judgment from a compassionate woman. Thank you, Judge Murphy!
Harriet F says:

Nina says:

jojo says:
I am delighted Brindi will live, but I am not so sure this is justice. Of course the judge could not put Brindi down – not with two assessments saying she is not aggressive.
By the same token, I don’t see why Brindi cannot simply go home. To effectively deal with whatever issues she has, this dog cannot be trained separately from her home and her owner. Her owner already promised to trainer her, she will use the muzzle, and will keep her confined within her fences. So why not return this dog, who has not done any serious harm in the first place?? I don’t understand also why the judge gave animal services any say say over what trainer works with Brindi. They are unqualified, and demonstrated their lack of qualifications by putting Brindi on death row in the first place.
And after training for aggression why should Brindi have to be muzzled? this is not the case for dozens of other dogs.
Also, I don’t get why the judge set a date for August to review the situation – that is FAR TOO long, for a dog impounded for nearly two years and whose health has been compromised.
I would not call her a brilliant judge, sorry.
Sunny S. says:
Just saw this & after learning the judge spared Birndi's life but made certain conditions, I disagree wtih Jojo!!I don't think Ms. Rogier would take issue with theM & expect she is very very relieved and happy with the decision!! I feel the judge deserves congratulations. She had to balance saving the dog along with strong feelings by some of the people locally tht dog should not be returned. But she stood out against them. The dog goes home, but there is monitoring by HRm govt so community feels safe too. It was a hard case to please everyone & the judge did very well. She DOES deserve a big thank you for her hard work and fairness.
